The First Annual New York Festival of Light

October 27th, 2014

If you are coming to New York City next week, this is not to miss! The first annual New York Festival of Light (NYFOL) will come alive next week on November 6, 7, and 8 in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Local and international lighting designers and technologists that work with the medium of light will be enhancing NYC’s architecture through interactive, static and  projected lighting installations.

Last year, artists tested their ideas in a small preview at Elizabeth Street Garden in order to prepare for this years festival. This preview was a small teaser building nothing but anticipation over the past year for the cities first Light Festival. The festival will also featuring food trucks and a DJ-what’s not to enjoy!

This cultural and unique presentation will take place after dark in DUMBO, Brooklyn, New York, in the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge at the Pearl Street Triangle (Pearl & Water St). What a breathtaking way to spend a fall evening in New York City. Support your local artists simply by attending, as the event is free to all.

NYC Merchandisers on a Private Tour

October 7th, 2013

Shop Gotham hosts corporate group shopping tours in addition to our other shopping services. In the fashion world (and several others), it is vital to progress with what is new and interesting in retail in order to succeed. Our private industry tours allow corporate members to do precisely that. Just last week, we hosted a group from a high end fashion company (whom we must keep annonymous). Merchandisers from this worldwide corporation spent the afternoon alongside our knowledgable guides and had an educational shopping experience tailored specifically to their companies business needs. This is a fun and educational alternative for entertaining corporate groups that are visiting NYC.

Fashion Blogs 101

November 23rd, 2012

Shop Gotham tour guides love to meet fashionistas-in-training who come to New York to shop, shop, shop.  Maybe you’re one of them:  the type to spend time digging through magazines for the latest trends, who troll boutiques and vintage stores for unique finds, they type to spend a lot of time creating your personal style.  Frequently our guides are asked to recommend fashion blogs for those who need daily inspiration.  Here are some of our faves:

College Fashionista

This site is exactly what it sounds like:  a go-to spot for fashion-minded guys and girls who want to stand out on campus.  They’ll find plenty of inspiration on this site, which features interviews with fashion insiders and a daily fashionista spotlight.  Perfect for the college student or soon-to-be high school grad.

Style Caster

When they join this website, users are able to share the things they love, sort of like a pinterest for fashion.  This results in a diverse range of styles and lots of opportunities for inspiration.  At Shop Gotham we love to find new things to drool over, and this website provides a minefield of material!

Glitterbuzz Style

This lesser-known blog is run by a fellow NYC gal with an eye for glamor, and we love her.  Featuring a ton of giveaways and tutorials, this young lady has definitely got an eye for fashion, coupled with a healthy dose of street sense.   Glitterbuzz will not only feature the latest trends, but explain explicitly “how to rock” them.  Enjoy!
