Sometimes too much is well.. just too much. NYC can feel like that. Including all the retail options.
One of the great shopping mysteries has always been the Garment Center District. What lies behind those many windows of those many buildings where the designers create their wares for the stores.
The Garment Center “insider” shopping tour will unmask those secrets and we have found its a wonderful jaunt for moms and daughters (ages 18 and older) to shop at Wholesale and learn a bit about this mysterious and legendary fashion industry.
All guests are sent home with a complimentary list of Sample Sales for post tour independent shopping. Which will keep anyone busy with shopping fun for many many hours. PEAK Sample Sale Season is November 15 to December 15
As the peak season approaches each year, we try to enlighten our readers with the What, Why and How of Sample Sales.
Once upon a time, designers sold their handful of sample size items at the end of the year. These are the individual pieces shown to store buyers. Some make it to full production, some do not. Typically, these are size 2, 4 or 6. That was then, this is now
Now, sample sales are BIG business and one can expect big inventory. All seasonal overstock in ALL sizes as well as those coveted one-off samples, are offered at Massive discount. This is an opportunity to buy often unaffordable clothing and accessories at very affordable prices. Or to chase down the designer names you love. or to simply shop for cool stuff. Essential to know: Must get to Sample Sale on its First day open!
In New York City, the apex of the 2017 sample sale season is November 13 to December 15.

Biking in NYC can be lots of fun and a fascinating way to see parts of the city from a different perspective. While many locals have adopted bike riding in lieu of mass transit – I a long time resident
That said, a pleasurable few hours on a bike armed with the right itinerary…. YES! im down with that. Here is a Recommended Itinerary for a few afternoon hours of “non taxing” NYC bike exploration.(Manhattan). Best if you are having a late dinner !
2pm: Get your bikes at Liberty bikes on Ninth Avenue between 55th and 56th street, just a couple of blocks from the Hudson River Bike Path. Bikes at Liberty are $5 an hour pre-reserved or $6 for walk ins. There are always plenty of everything from girly bikes to mountain bikes, so really no need to reserve. Freddie will set you up and remember to rent a lock.
Ride south on the Hudson River Bike Path, a relatively flat but winding road running parallel to the Hudson River. With ever present views of New Jersey, pretty parks with sunbather, The Intrepid Museum and Chelsea Piers, there is plenty of take in along the ride.
2:30 Destination The marina at Battery Park officially known as North Cove Marina. 4- 5 miles. You will run right into it. Almost at the southern tip of Manhattan, this is the place to stop for views of The Statue of Liberty, The Freedom Tower and all of lower Manhattan. Plenty of cafes abound as well as a very high end Mall if you need some shopping therapy. We suggest you just Rest your bikes, grab an outside table at the marina , order some iced coffee or lunch and soak in NYC.
Head back north on the Hudson Bike Path.
5pm: Destination:the West Village. Get off at the path at West 10th street. Walk or ride east crossing over 12th Avenue and Washington. Walk one block north to Charles Street. Destination: Casa La Femme, 140 Charles St, between Washington and Greenwhich .
One of the most delightful environments you will find in NYC, sit by the large open windows in the luscious high back chairs and order some Turkish coffee and mezze at this wonderful Egyptian restaurant, a little slice of paradise.
Ride around the West Village just a couple of blocks to take in the lovely townhouses which fill this coveted corner of the city.
Destination : hotel nap. Return your bikes and head immediately to your hotel for a nap.
Cause getting people to sit in line for you in NYC is finally a business.
Attention all Visitors and New Yorkers.

With its cobblestone streets and Cast Iron architecture, the SoHo/NoLita neighborhood is worth a full day’s visit. Yes, like much of NY, its becoming “mallified” – big name brands pushing out indie stores- but there is still plenty of interesting shopping and far more. Our recommendation (including our own “plug”:)
1)11am: Pay a visit to THE NEW MUSEUM, for contemporary art in a stunning physical structure.
2)Noon: Lunch at DELICATESSAN www.delicatessennyc.com (not a deli!) for delicious comfort food options as well as great light fare on the best corner for people watching, inside and out.
3)1:30pm: Join us for a SoHo and NoLita Chic Boutiques Shopping Tour so that we can Bring you to those Indie shops worth knowing about
4)4:00pm: Visit MOCA: www.mocanyc.org (museum of Chinese in America) and learn the story of this important immigrant group in a building designed by the famed Maya Lin (also designed the Vietnam Memorial in DC)
