All fashion designers create more items than they will sell each season(overstock). They also create individual pieces each season for the buyers to look at (samples)
At the end of the season, they like to sell off these items at a deep discount (Sample Sales!)
While once upon a time, these items were just in sample slzes (typically something small), now one can find all range of sizes.
Holiday time in NYC is simply a bonanza of Sample Sales with a dozen to 2 dozen each day from mid-november to mid-december. Not only can one score from exciting brands you know. but its a great opportunity to uncover new ones. And the prices! EXPECT far better than the Department Store sales.
