Biking in NYC can be lots of fun and a fascinating way to see parts of the city from a different perspective.    While many locals have adopted bike riding in lieu of mass transit – I a long time resident

That said, a pleasurable few hours on a bike armed with the right itinerary…. YES! im down with that. Here is a Recommended Itinerary for a few afternoon hours of “non taxing” NYC bike  exploration.(Manhattan).  Best if you are having  a late dinner !

WEST SIDE

2pm: Get your bikes at Liberty bikes  on Ninth Avenue between 55th and 56th street, just a couple of blocks from the Hudson River Bike  Path.  Bikes at Liberty are $5 an hour pre-reserved or $6 for walk ins. There are always plenty of everything from girly bikes to mountain bikes, so really no need to reserve. Freddie will set you up and remember to rent a lock.

Ride south on the Hudson River Bike Path, a relatively flat but winding road running parallel to the Hudson River. With ever present views of New Jersey, pretty parks with sunbather,  The Intrepid Museum and Chelsea Piers, there is plenty of take in along the ride.

2:30 Destination The marina at Battery Park officially known as  North Cove Marina. 4- 5 miles. You will run right into it. Almost at the southern tip of Manhattan, this is the place to stop for views of The Statue of Liberty, The Freedom Tower and all of lower Manhattan. Plenty of cafes abound as well as a very high end Mall if you need some shopping therapy. We suggest you just Rest your bikes, grab an outside table at the marina , order some iced coffee or lunch and soak in NYC.

Head back north on the Hudson Bike Path.

5pm:  Destination:the West Village. Get off at the path at West 10th street. Walk or ride east crossing over 12th Avenue and Washington. Walk one block north to Charles Street. Destination: Casa La Femme, 140 Charles St, between Washington and Greenwhich .

One of the most delightful environments you will find in NYC, sit by the large open windows in the luscious high back chairs and order some Turkish coffee and mezze at this wonderful Egyptian restaurant, a little slice of paradise.

Ride around the West Village just a couple of blocks to take in the lovely townhouses which fill this coveted corner of the city.

Destination : hotel nap. Return your bikes and head immediately to your hotel for a nap.
