Once upon a time, the Lower East Side was the hub for pickles, Jewish deli, cheap clothes and poor immigrants. It’s Long been gentrified and the pace of building is astounding. The most interesting and least known streets are the most Eastern ones ( we are talking almost at the Williamsburg bridge) A couple of hours on Norfolk Street (between Delancey and Rivington)

THE BACKROOM(SPEAKEASY): backroomnyc.com. Dark and moody – good for snuggling – with a truly precarious entrance leading to 1930’s prohibition themed spot. All cocktails served in tea cups.
