What to Expect on a NYC Sweet 16 or Teen Shopping Program with Shop Gotham

Teens love to shop.  Indeed they do. On a recent Shop Gotham program in SoHo/Nolita, 12 teens from Cleveland returned home with bags ablaze with goodies and certainly no one broke the bank or worse, angered their parents!

They commenced their day at an indoor market for young indie designers.  30 designers under one roof offer everything from leather jackets to candles.

Then on to 8 more NYC cool stores which offered selections the girls could not find at home.

Along the way, their fashionable guide regaled them with stories about the area  of Soho and Nolita – once a thriving art community, shared fashion tips, helped select pieces which were just right for the season and pointed out where celebrities live.

The 3 hours concluded with special cupcakes for the honoree from a famous tv bakery

Window Shopping at Bergdorf Goodman


Looking for something fun and free to do in NYC this weekend? We highly recommend strolling Fifth Avenue to witness the new and breathtaking Bergdorf Goodman window display, designed in honor of New York Fashion Week. BG commissioned installation artist Eva Petric to create a visionary “Lace Environment” in the windows of the store front.

This immaculate display is called “Personal UNiVERSEs” and consists of thousands of tiny, individual vintage lace pieces that have been combined to create large weblike environments. While the mannequins are dressed in looks from the stores new Spring 2015 collections, Petric’s lace networks serve as the backdrop and surrounding environment. These stunning windows will be on display until March 8th.

According to Petric:
“The assemblages are made out of old, given, or purchased  pieces of lace and hand works. Some I got from family and friends, and many were bought from flea markets around the world. Some were given to me by people who pulled them from storage–even out of cellars. So these pieces really represent for me the trans generational connections that tie us into worldwide webs.”

Easter Weekend 2014 in New York City


Things to do over Easter Weekend in New York:

  • Easter egg hunt, Saturday April 19 from 12-4

Children can hunt for eggs throughout the afternoon, meet a human-sized bunny, play games, visit farm animals, and take a hayride at the Barnyard Easter Egg Hunt at Queens County Farm Museum.

  • Easter Sunday Restaurant Specials

OpenTable has a list of restaurants offering special menus for Easter.

  • Easter Sunday Parade, from 10-4

Wear an extravagant hat or festive costume and join the people strolling on Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets in the Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival. The official street closure is from 47th to 57th. Free.

  • Tribeca Film Festival, April 16-27

The Tribeca Film program will feature films of all stripes: crowd-pleasing blockbusters-to-be, provocative documentaries, foreign films, shorts and free outdoor screenings, plus a cornucopia of panel discussions and lectures.

Halloween Shopping in NYC-the 411

The Village Party Store on 13 E 8th St has more than 2,000 getups to offer!

Halloween Adventure on 104 4th Ave is close to Union Square and open all year round. They also stay open til midnight as part of their “October Extended Hours”, for you late night shoppers.

Ricky’s is a great option in a multitude of neighborhoods-45 Halloween “super stores” throughout Manhattan.

Abracadabra Superstore on 19 w 21st St is a three level ‘haunted house vibe’ shop that sells costumes and has makeup artists on hand that detail in body painting as well. The best part- they have and rent an extensive costume and prop selection (both outrageous and hysterical).

Sprit has 14 locations in Manhattan, sells everything you will need to celebrate the holiday from home decor to costumes and accessories. Unique finds here include group costumes, theatrical contact lenses, and an extensive mask selection.
