The famed Plaza Hotel Tea Room re-opens today

Want to feel transported for a couple hours? The Plaza Hotel tea hour in the Palm Court reopens today after a a full renovation. In addition to the typical tea fare of scones and mini crustless cucumber sandwhiches, lobster rolls and other delightful items have been added. $50- $65 for the service, but this is a treat worth trying.

A Shop Gotham shopping tour will most certainly cap off this most decadently delightful day

Why you should take a Soho & Nolita NYC Shopping Tour with Shop Gotham

Reviewed March 15, 2014 NEW
Good Adventure!
There were only 5 on our tour, which was a really good number for venturing around the Nolita area. We were taken into a variety of boutique shops where no two places were alike. The size of our group also allowed for an “education” in life in Nolita. From shopping to architecture to a special stop at a cupcake shop, this was a great tour!

The Historic Shopping Experience

The holiday season provides probably the best atmosphere and opportunity to really take advantage of creating a great shopping experience. Something that every fashionista should do and take advantage of in their life is visiting the iconic New York City. With retailers, manufacturers, and distributors lining the scenic streets of NYC, one would never run out of shops to check out and styles to discover. If you are driving into Manhattan at this time of year, parking is not a small concern. Best to have this planned out in advance for a smooth shopping day or just pull out your  card for NYC monthly parking,

Whether you are vacationing in the city with shopping on the side, or taking to the streets on a shopping mission, there are definitely some companies you should be sure to stop by. New (foreign or domestic) fashion companies and boutiques are always setting up shop in NYC. Frequent style changes are sure to roll through here first, giving you an extra step on the west coasters.

Retail stores that you’ve seen in other places are done different in NYC. They are bigger, better, and simply more attractive in design and ambiance. Here are some staple stores you shouldn’t miss out on during your exploration:

Bloomingdale’s

It doesn’t matter whether you are looking to buy or just soak up the brands. This East side flagship or Soho outpost, opened just under a decade ago, boasts all the top brands as you would expect, with an ambiance to match.

H&M

The European retailer has found its way to the U.S. and is now in a prime location in NYC. The fashion styles that keep us going and curious are extremely affordable and look good. As already know, the fashion here can help make for some last minute wardrobe changes before hitting the NYC nightlife or simply help you find a great souvenir.

Niketown New York

Be sure to stroll through this top athletic sports brand store and get motivated. On top of carrying all the apparel that we’re used to, they’ll have the technology to match it, and probably do a double take. Whatever your motivation or goal is on the trip, you’ll be sure to find an extra rush of energy when in there. After all, you’re doing it. You’re taking on NYC.

Macy’s

Last, but not least, walking up and into the nine story iconic retail building is a must. While the fashions and items here are not necessarily the newest, all shopaholics alike will find a great experience and large departments of clothes to look through. Whether the fashion or the history draws you in, enjoy the shopping moment as much as you can.

Shop Gotham NYC Shopping Tour Blog

We root for every new store that opens in Soho, and we’re particularly excited about K-Way.  This European brand used to be found exclusively in stores such as Neiman Marcus and J. Crew.  But now they have a flagship store right in the heart of Manhattan.  You can come visit it on the Shop Gotham Soho/Nolita tour.

K-Way is known for lightweight jackets that fold into a small pouch: perfect for travelers!   The store’s modern interior—featuring clear hanging bubble chairs for weary shoppers—reflects the brand’s clean and simple designs. Highlights include men’s reversible jackets ($79–$225), women’s full-length nylon coats ($89–$369), bucket hats ($35) and unisex nylon pants ($49–$89). K-Way will soon be collaborating with well-known designers, including Collection Privée, and these exclusive designs will be found only in the New York store.

Soho & Nolita NYC Stores September 2012. Piperlime and Christian Siriano

With the ever-changing retail landscape of Soho and Nolita, it was time to troll the streets and see what’s new (what’s belly up) and whats wortwhile. Today we went to the Piperlime and Christian Siriano stores, both of which opened in past 3 weeks.

Piperlime: This fresh big store– the only bricks and morter one of this popular on-line company — offers mid range women’s apparel, accessories and footwear. Here you wont find originality, but rather items from Rachel Zoe,   Splendid, Olivia Palermo, BCBG and about 12 other designers. A good one-stop shopping excursion in lieu of a visit to Bloomies. The large shoes and boots section has worthwhile offerings in the $150- $300 price point. Overall: good addition to Soho for those who find the area overrun with chains and unaffordable boutiques. Piperlime, 121 Wooster St, between Prince and Spring

Christian Siriano: High hopes dashed with this store.Felt  like so many of the individual boutiques (with short lives) in NYC. Designer’s inspiration vs what women want to wear. At first glance, this small store does not even inspire a thorough glance.  Dark and drab dresses and separates in the $300 – $600 category.  Funny, but the online store feels fresher. Feh. Christian Siriano, 252 Elizabeth Street
