Black Friday: What to Pack

November 24th, 2014

Coming to the city this weekend? Trying to plan your outfits but don’t know where to begin? We agree, the weather has been a bit nutty, but by Wednesday temperatures will drop again, drastically, so plan to dress warm! Snow showers are expected for Thanksgiving Day, but if you’ve ever visited New York during winter time, you know the snow never sticks!

You might as well skip the snow boots this weekend and save the room in your suitcase.

Dress in style for your visit to NYC for Thanksgiving weekend and Black Friday. Oversized bathrobe inspired wool jackets, chunky knits, everything GREY, over the knee boots, a wide brim fedora, retro shades..the list goes on and on. These key pieces are in right now and if you can incorporate one or 2 of them into your outfits you will surely fit the part of chic New Yorker this weekend!

Sweater Weather

October 14th, 2014

Sweaters are a huge trend this season, major score!

All pros, no cons:
1. They are the most comfortable thing on the planet
2. Fashionable item that will actually keep you warm
3. Easy to layer-stick to basic colors and neutral shades

Not even close to a sweater dress, this fitted long length number with side slits is a must have from Zara’s fall collection! Throw it over anything and call it a day.

Layering inspiration-keep it simple and stick to similar hues/colors within your layers. Always remember to balance a big sweater with a slim bottom silhouettes (like a skinny jean).

Turtleneck sweater-we give it the go ahead as long is it has some variation from the ones you used to wear skiing. For example, the cowl neckline adds a chic element in addition to layering over a floral dress.

Oversized knits-the cardigan with bulk, the thick sweater that subs as a jacket. This look is totally in right now, and totally doable on all women. Give your leather jacket a day of rest and enjoy the fall weather while you can in a chunky knit!

What to wear when visiting NYC this fall

November 1st, 2013

The weather recently has been a bit wild, ranging from sunny and warm afternoons to chilly windy nights. Our suggestion on dreassing for NYC this fall-wear layers! Not only is layering your outfit a fashion statement, but it allows you flexibility throughout the day and into the evening as the weather changes. Key pieces to incorporate this fall:

  • Hats- Wide rimmed, floppy, colorful, there are so many styles (making this trend work for a wide variety of face shapes accross the board). Hats are “so in” right now, fun to wear, and an easy on/off as weather permits! Try these styles- cloche, bowler, beanie, fedora, beret.
  • Scarves- Offer a little protection to your neck, feel cozy, and look chic! Cashmere, knit, wraps, knotted, tied, infinity…the choices go on and on! Always a statement piece and easy to wear.
  • Cashmere blend socks- Not only are they super warm, comfortable, and able to fit inside your favorite boots- your toes will appreciate the added comfort with all the walking you will be doing in the city.
  • Leather jacket-  The undying NYC trend. Fitted, moto, cropped, embellished- whichever way to want to wear it, these jackets are slimming AND warm.
  • Vests/Capes- These styles have resurfaced from fashion history and are chic when worn correctly! Keep it simple-when using these pieces as your top layer, stick with solid greys, blacks and camel. As for the adventurous, try these fun outerwear trends: leather trim, color fur, herringbone, houndstooth, pinstripes, and Prince of Wales checks. Hoods and high necklines are also ways to ward off the NYC wind.
  • You can find these items on a Shop Gotham shopping tour at discounted prices!
